Cardiac troponin is a protein that plays a major regulatory role in the contraction of cardiac striated muscle. Cardiac troponin has three subunits troponin T, which binds to tropomyosin; troponin l, which regulates actomyosin ATPase activity; and troponin C, which binds to calcium. The high-sensitivity troponin I test uses the upper 99th percentile value of troponin I in a normal reference population as the critical value. At this critical level, the CV of the test method is ≤10%.
